Vittorio Bianchi’s work focuses primarily upon one element, which can be defined more than anything as a gesture, or that of laceration. The two-dimensional nature of the materials used by Bianchi is slavishly called into question by interventions that create absences and therefore open passages to other possible dimensions, underlining their fragility and at the same time the radical elegance and preciousness of what is torn. In fact, the fabrics used by the artist in his works highlight dedicated research ranging from Taiwanese silk to Italian lampas through monochromatic textures and elaborate prints.
His artistic research therefore also extends to the study of multiculturalism with a strong reference to the historicity of the treated materials whose processing underlines the echo of the time.reference to the historicity of the treated materials whose processing underlines the echo of the time.
The intention of Bianchi on the occasion of his residency at Viafarini (May-Dec 2019) – Milan is to focus his next artistic production on something that at first glance may be different but that, in reality, is dialectically in absolute harmony with what has until now characterized his work. Which ranges from a gestural “hollow”, that of laceration, to one of “relief”, which comes out of the two-dimensionality protruding forward rather than backward, thus giving thickness and shape to new anthropomorphic figures. The artist is in fact interested in investigating the body – in this sense the reference to his past sculptural creations and his previous collaboration with the performer Francesca Lolli is evident –. He reproduces its lineaments and examines, at the same time, new materials and modes of gestation.
